Gladys Maria Knight (born May 28, 1944), known as the "Empress of Soul", is an American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and author. A seven-time Grammy Award-winner, Knight is known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips, which also included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and cousins Edward Patten and William Guest. Artist: Gladys Knight & The Pips. Album: One More Lonely Night, 2012. A cover of the Jesse Belvin "standard", and oh what a fine one it was. Gladys brought her own musical style and soul. I was a record collector in the 50s and 60s, mostly R&B, doowop, and Motown Peggy Sue and Blue Suede Shoes (still got em). I listened mostly to KDIA in San Francisco/Oakland back in the day.
