The Fire Inside is the fourteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Seger. It was Seger's first album of entirely new music since Like a Rock in 1986. It features contributions from Joe Walsh, Bruce Hornsby, Roy Bittan, Steve Lukather, Don Was, Waddy Wachtel, Rick Vito, Mike Campbell, Patty Smyth, Lisa Germano, and Kenny Aronoff.

Seger followed his usual habit by recording some of the album with the soulful Barry Beckett at the board - much of the rest was recorded by Don Was - and the disc would be understood as bullishly American even if it didn't have the Statue of Liberty on the cover. Seger's nationalistic impulses, however, truly flower when he touches upon blues and country. A little more than a quarter-century ago, his new album was The Fire Inside, but it was released at a time (1991) when heritage rock artists had a difficult time being heard in the prevailing musical climate. Seger, ever the meticulous craftsman, worked hard to bring the song to a point where he was completely satisfied with it, as he told Music Connection in 1994.
