Eric Burdon was born in 1941 in Newcastle, England and his father was originally from Tyneside and his mother Ireland, who moved down to Scotland, then to Newcastle in the thirties. Burdon states he often had a divided loyalty in his sense of place and he was born to a lower working-class family, his father did electrical work in some of the clubs Burdon would later play. This made these albums sound flat and boxy, MGM Records called these original cast albums in the style of Deccas Broadway show cast albums. They also coined the phrase recorded directly from the soundtrack, over the years the term soundtrack began to be commonly applied to any recording from a film, whether taken from the actual film soundtrack or re-recorded in studio.
