Which brings us to this new CD release, HERBIE HANCOCK SEPTET "LIVE AT THE BOSTON JAZZ WORKSHOP" recorded on March 22, 1973 for later broadcast on WBCN-FM.

Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II (December 9, 1932 – February 4, 2013) was an American jazz and rhythm & blues trumpeter and vocalist. A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd was known as one of the rare bebop jazz musicians who successfully explored funk and soul while remaining a jazz artist. As a bandleader, Byrd was an influence on the early career of Herbie Hancock.

Follow Classic Album Sundays to never miss another show. A jazz funk classic, Black Byrd was Byrd’s first and arguably most lauded release on Blue Note with a poppy style that grew his fanbase exponentially across the globe.

Live at The Club, the record is arguably as much a showcase for his brother’s songwriting and playing. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was founded in 1958 as a space in which composers, musicians, and engineers experimented with techniques for producing sound under the auspices of soundtracking BBC programming.
