What THE ALGORITHM have created with Compiler Optimization Techniques is the closest thing they’ve come to a truly winning formula. This is a patient and well thought out record, that grows and swells with a natural feel despite its clearly inorganic sounds and creations. The grooves are water tight and part of the reason this record remains so strong through its entire run time.

Compiler Optimization Techniques is a confused mess, but it's one you can still get behind and enjoy for the most part. The danceable rhythms are still in spades, but what Gallego is attempting to create here is a progressive metal epic with avant-garde strings attached.

Gallic electro-metaller The Algorithm pushes the dial towards technical ecstasy with Compiler Optimization Techniques. The Algorithm, aka French radical Rémi Gallego, has continued to develop his mind-bending catalogue of music since 2012 debut Polymorphic Code, but this five-track opus could well be the jewel in his crown. In just under 12 minutes, Cluster recalls Animals As Leaders, Enter Shikari and Chimp Spanner and yet sounds unlike anything you’ve heard before.
