The band was active in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and had several Australian chart hits during that time, including "Hit and Run", "Shape I'm In" and "All I Wanna Do". The Falcons dissolved in 1981. This was their fourth album.

He began his music career playing blues and R&B, and in the late 1960s he was a member of Adderly Smith Blues Band but according to Australian rock historian Ed Nimmervoll Camilleri was sacked for sounding too much like Mick Jagger and for upstaging the other band members.

Screaming Targets is the fourth studio album by Australian blues/rock band Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons. The album was the band's first via Mushroom Records. Released in July 1979, the album peaked at number 13 on the Australian Kent Music Report, becoming the band's first top twenty album The US release, detailed below, differed slightly from the original Australian issue, and did not appear until 1980.

The album was intended as a tribute to his band mate in both groups, singer-songwriter Ronnie Lane, released on what would have been Lane's sixtieth birthday, 1 April 2006, on McLagan's own Maniac Records. Featuring ten tracks either written or co-written by Lane throughout the span of his career as a musician and one written by McLagan for Lane, it was recorded in February and March 2006 at McLagan's Manor, Texas studio, The Doghouse, with his backing group, the Bump Band in tow alongside such guests as famed Austin, Texas disc jockey Jody Denberg .
