Madman Across the Water is the fourth studio album by Elton John, released in 1971 through DJM and Uni Records. Madman Across the Water was the fourth studio album released by Elton John, as well as his third album to be released in 1971, at which point John had been rising to prominence as a popular music artist. It contains 9 tracks, each composed and performed by John and with lyrics written by songwriting partner Bernie Taupin as with his previous material.

Madman across the Water (оригинал Elton John). Сумасшедший среди вод (перевод Алекс). I can see very well, Я очень хорошо вижу. There's a boat on the reef with a broken back. Лодку на рифе с пробитой кормой. Another glimpse of the Madman across the Water. Сумасшедший снова среди вод? The ground's a long way down but I need more, Земля далеко, но я хочу ещё. Is the nightmare black. Это мрачный ночной кошмар. Or are the windows painted.

Like its two predecessors, Madman Across the Water is driven by the sweeping string arrangements of Paul Buckmaster, who gives the songs here a richly dark and haunting edge. And these are songs that benefit from grandiose treatments.

Madman Across the Water barely reached on the UK Albums Chart, spending only two weeks there. It has been the lowest-charting album of his career to date. The album fared better in North America, peaking at on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums and placing at on the year-end list of 1972.

A very dark song with a Leon Russell influence, Bernie Taupin made up the story about a lunatic ranting on visiting day at the asylum. Predictably, it wasn't chartworthy, but it did provide the album title as well as plenty of speculation that Elton was singing about United States president Richard Nixon. Taupin says that wasn't the case, although he was quite amused by the interpretation. Tiny Dancer" and "Levon" were the most popular songs on the Madman Across the Water album, but Elton says that he feels most connected to the title track. The album marked a major musical shift for Elton, as he brought a guitarist into his band for the first time, enlisting Davey Johnstone. More songs from Elton John. More songs about insanity. More songs from 1971. Lyrics to Madman Across the Water.

Described by Elton John himself as the very last album of its kind we’ll do, ‘Madman Across The Water’ continued his North American domination. Published on. May 23, 2019. Exponential success brought no let-up in Elton John’s diary in 1971. By November, it was time for the release of his fifth album in 18 months, and this after the little matter of a live album (17-11-70) and a film soundtrack (Friends) in the previous eight. But still the timeless melodies poured out of him, and trenchant lyrics from Bernie Taupin’s pen, on another vital entry in their early work together, Madman Across The Water. The album was – and to some extent remains – underappreciated in the UK, where its chart performance was inexplicably brief.
