A freeze frame is a still image taken from a piece of moving video - perhaps the most famous one is Judd Nelson with his fist in the air at the end of The Breakfast Club. In this song, the singer recounts a memorable week with a lovely lady through the use of film production metaphors. This song was written by J. Geils Band lead singer Peter Wolf and keyboard player Seth Justman, who also produced the album. Wolf brought an energy and swagger to the songs he worked on, while Justman was often the creative engine, specializing in various keyboard sounds. Justman joined the band a few years after they formed, adding piano and organ to their mix, and quickly becoming a primary songwriter. The group was one of the first rock bands to emerge from Boston, with a sound that also incorporated blues and soul.

The J. Geils Band released 'Freeze-Frame' in October 1981. Freeze-Frame definitely has to do with the state of the world, in our interpretation of it," Justman told Rolling Stone. We felt we had to deal with issues now - especially now. The world is so f--ed up - the nuclear bulls--, the economic state. I think what an artist has to do is interpret in his own way where things are, at a particular time. That's the best thing.

I could see it was a rough-cut Tuesday Slow-motion weekdays stare me down Her lipstick reflex got me wound There were no defects to be found Snapshot image froze without a sound. Thursday morning was a hot flash-factor Her face still focused in my mind Test-strip proof-sheet love is hard to find Friday night we'll dance the spotlight grind Stop-time heart for me if she's not mine
