Complete your African Head Charge collection. Mastering sounds great, fantastic album. Quality control issues though, I've gone through 3 copies (replaced by the seller). All 3 have had some level of non-fill on B3-B5 and a few spots on side A (sound degradation more noticeable on the side A bits, especially in saxophone highs); side B bits are not severe). 2 of the 3 records have come new out of the wrapper with audible, visible scratches through one or more tracks (not scuffs or light, non-audible scratches, but definitely audible, heavier scratches)

African Head Charge had started out making a series of heavily experimental studio albums that Adrian built around the distinctive rasta hand drumming of master percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah. After 1986’s Off The Beaten Track, Bonjo formed a live incarnation of the band, which fed into a radical new direction on their next album - widely considered to be their masterpiece - Songs Of Praise. David Harrow, who was a key part of the On-U Soundsystem at the time and provided much of the programming for the album, recalls recording the vocal for this by dangling a microphone out of the window.

African Head Charge soon became On-U Sound's most popular act, and though they had not played a live date during the first four albums, the group hit the road and began to do live shows. After a break of several years, they returned in 1991 with Songs of Praise and then released In Pursuit of Shashamane Land in 1994 and Akwaaba a year later. See All. Doug Wimbish.
