If you enjoyed the first volume of our Eastbound releases - Caesar Frazier's sumptuous organ funk (CDSEWD 047) - then this second instalment will suit you right down to the ground. Producer Bob Porter's knowledge of the soul-jazz club scene in the early 70s led him straight to two more sidemen, in much the same way as he had previously found such illustrious players as Melvin Sparks, Charles Earland and Idris Muhammad while he was working at Prestige. Strangely, he never appeared on any of Donaldson's recordings of the time - although on a six month break from Lou he made two dates for Charles Earland, another of Donaldson's alumni.

This cd makes a decent but flawed companion piece to 1993's Gettin' It Off; Westbound Funk CD. It's great to have a 2nd unreleased pre-P Boots (Bootsy Collins) track as well as the previously unreleased tracks by the Ohio Players and Freddie Wilson
