Self Defense Family Cohoes, New York. Working people (part 1). Dec 2018. Have You Considered Punk Music.

Self Defense Family (shortened to Self Defense and previously known as End of a Year) are an American rock band with members from across the United States and England. The band has released five full-length albums and several EPs and splits. Their sixth and latest studio album Have You Considered Punk Music was released June 29th, 2018 on Run For Cover Records. After the release of their 2010 album You Are Beneath Me, the group wanted to change their name to "Self Defense". As an interim name to ease the transition between names, Self Defense went by the name "End Of A Year Self Defense Family," and occasionally "Self Defense Music. Vocalist Patrick Kindlon likened the transition to Will Oldham's name changes. 2018. Run For Cover Records.

Try Me (Self Defense Family album). Try Me is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Self Defense Family and first under this moniker - previous studio albums were released under the name End of a Year.

Self Defense Family (sometimes shortened to Self Defense and previously known as End of a Year) is a post-punk outfit with members from across the United States and England, origin Cohoes, New York, United States. The band started in 2003 as a side project for a number of Albany musicians already involved in full-time bands. Having spent time in heavier bands, the initial End of a Year line-up was interested in trying something more overtly melodic.

Self Defense Family was never the band I would listen to in these kinds of moods. The albums and EPs of theirs I listen to have a sophisticated power that I enjoy. This isn’t some revelation or surprising new aspect of Self Defense Family that has suddenly redeemed them in some way. But there will be a lot said about this album and, in particular, the inclusion of Kristina Esfandari. Self Defense Family has always sat in between the worlds of conventional punk music (Run For Cover has released her works so it made sense in that way) and the world of unclassifiable musicians.
