Message in a Bottle" is a song by English rock band The Police. It was released as the lead single from their second studio album, Reggatta de Blanc (1979). Written by the band's lead singer and bassist Sting, the song is ostensibly about a story of a castaway on an island, who sends out a message in a bottle to seek love. A year later, he has not received any sort of response, and despairs, thinking he is destined to be alone.

The UK Albums Chart is a record chart based on weekly album sales in the United Kingdom; during the 1970s, a total of 148 albums reached number one. In October 1971, Imagine by John Lennon and The Plastic Ono Band became the 100th album to top the UK chart; seven years later, Nightflight to Venus by Boney M. became the 200th album to do so. Five artists spent 20 weeks or more at number one on the albums chart during the 1970s.

Looking back on Herbie’s twelfth album, Head Hunters, which was released on this day in 1973. Recorded at Wally Heider Studios and Different Fur Trading Co. in San Francisco, the album went on to become one of Herbie’s best known records and represented a landmark moment in jazz history. The album was later added to the Library Of Congress’s National Recording Registry which collects "culturally, historically or aesthetically important" sound recordings from the 20th century.

Herbie Hancock is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while still maintaining his unique, unmistakable voice. With an illustrious career spanning five decades, he continues to amaze audiences and never ceases to expand the public's vision of what music, particularly jazz, is all about today.

Even while studying science in college, Herbie played jazz professionally in Chicago, sitting in with legends like Coleman Hawkins and trumpeter Donald Byrd. Herbie's reputation as an astute pianist was starting to spread on the scene. Byrd encouraged him to travel to New York and join him in the studio for the trumpeter's 1962 album, Free Form. When the 22-year old Hancock began recording his first album that same year - a collection of cover songs - his compositional skills were so impressive that Blue Note Records co-founder Alfred Lions urged him to focus solely on originals

Now, he's one of the most celebrated musicians in the world. Watch, listen, and learn as Herbie shows you how to take your music to the next level.

These two CDs document Herbie Hancock's music from 1969-1971 for the Warner Brothers label, released originally as three albums. It is a testament to how much jazz was changing at the time that the first album and the last are so drastically different, though the middle album helps to bridge the gap. The first album, "Fat Albert Rotunda," was music that Hancock wrote for "Fat Albert," the Bill Cosby cartoon. For the most part, the music is very funky, but more in the Lee Morgan boogaloo sense than in the Headhunters of the 70s sense

In 1974, Herbie did the score for the motion picture Death Wish (1974). Within that project were musicians from The Head Hunters Band mixed with strings, woodwinds, and brass.

What a spectacular record by Mr. Degiorgio. Funny story - first time I listened to this record was with my girlfriend in the studio. Had a nice strong beer and started to get lost in the first track. What was the first word I used to describe this track to the lady? Yes, "epic," so quite the appropriate title for the beginning of this excellent journey. The rest of the first vinyl is mesmerizing... ambient jam, I'd call it, and totally hypnotic. The second vinyl picks it up with some hybrid d&b track and some funky, groovy techno/house. Love it! This is really the album that finds Kirk between his two distinct phases as a producer - the early 90s techno and the broken beat, future jazz, experimental house. I don't know if I'll ever have a favorite Degiorgio/As One record, but this ranks up there pretty high. Quality through and through.

Bought this record when it came out. A perfect record that excels in consistency and innovation. Head music with a distinct feeling for groove.
