The Heroine Sheiks were a New York-based Noise Rock band until early 2006. It began in 1999 as a collaboration of Shannon Selberg, George Porfiris, Norman Westberg and John Fell. Selberg emerged as a major songwriter in the complete history of the band whose sound was darker and more sinister than his previous work in The Cows. With several references to the writer Louis-Ferdinand Céline, the band explored a thematic quality of black comedy.

New York is the fifteenth solo studio album by American musician Lou Reed, released in January 1989 by Sire Records. The album received universal critical success upon release, and is widely considered to be among Reed's strongest solo efforts. Model Zero are a new band from Memphis with plenty of familiar faces, comprised of members of Ex-Cult, Aquarian Blood, and The Sheiks. Set to release their self-titled debut album on May 31st via Slovenly Recordings and Black Gladiator, the band play a dark and creepy blend of post-punk, no wave, and garage punk that feels at home in Memphis but could just as easily be made on another planet altogether.

This one fine, sophisticated and unique hybrid of influences makes this one album not to be ignored. The Mescal Sheiks are made up of a group of musicians and songwriters based in Los Angeles, who first collaborated on various Hangan Brothers projects. Though California they are, not all started out in the Golden State. Obviously influenced by their diverse backgrounds from New York, Chicago, Arkansas, and . the Mescal Sheiks have combined a unique blend of ingredients to create their own sound. The Sheiks touch on the sounds of New Orleans ("Fool for You" and "Sugar Hoodoo"), 1940's Chicago ("Got To Have Me Two"), and Texas shuffles ("Baby Whatcha Do" with a great organ sound and a killer push from drummer Albert Trepagnier).
