Linda Ronstadt’s Live in Hollywood was released Feb. 1, 2019 by Rhino. So fans will relish finally having live renditions of How Do I Make You, Little Feat’s Willin’ and the Eagles’ Desperado. Live in Hollywood posed its own challenges for Ronstadt and producer John Boylan, who worked with her in 1971 on her eponymous album that featured Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon as her band before they were the Eagles. The album almost didn’t happen because HBO, Ronstadt, and Rhino’s parent label, Warner Bros. could not find the master tapes. Ronstadt initially says she wasn’t even aware these existed - perhaps one reason it wasn’t released in the Christmas record-selling window of 1980. Great sounding album. Linda and the band are in top form here. Reply Notify me Helpful. Linda really lets loose here, quite a bit more than on her studio albums. I only wish there were more songs.
Linda Ronstadt released more than two dozen studio albums during a stellar career that has spanned more than five decades. Surprisingly, during all that time, the legendary singer never released a live album. That will finally change with an upcoming album that features amazing performances from a concert that Ronstadt recorded in 1980 for her acclaimed HBO television special. Recorded on April 24, 1980 at Television Center Studios in Hollywood, the concert captures Ronstadt at the peak of her reign as America's most popular female rock singer. John Boylan - who produced LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD - says the album almost didn't happen because HBO, Ronstadt, and her record label, Warner Bros. could not initially find the master tapes. It was a rink-side conversation with a Warner Bros. audio engineer at their sons' hockey practice that would finally lead him to the missing tapes.

Gary Friedman, Los Angeles Times). The recent release of the first official live recording of Linda Ronstadt’s career, coming more than a decade after Parkinson’s disease forced her to abandon singing, is surprising on at least two fronts. For starters, this celebrated perfectionist is not a fan of live albums in general, much less any with her voice front and center. com’s CD sales ranking and as of Monday, it entered Billboard’s Top Albums national sales chart at No. 7.
It peaked at on Billboard's Pop Album Chart and on Billboard's Country Album Chart. It is considered to be a front-runner in the country rock music genre.
Linda Ronstadt discussed her doubts about releasing 'Live in Hollywood,' during an exclusive February 2019 interview with UC. Only then was Ronstadt brought in to help choose the 12 songs that made the final album run-down – though with my hands over my ears, she quips. It wasn’t anything I did deliberately, believe me, Ronstadt adds, with a hearty laugh. I think the stuff that’s sleeping in there should be left to lie. Because there was usually a reason why we didn’t put it out, because we didn’t think it was good enough. Whatever her reservations, Live in Hollywood is revealed as a nearly perfect overview of Ronstadt’s career to that point – and an important live document of her incredible talents as an interpreter of other people’s songs. Among the highlights are Warren Zevon's Poor, Poor Pitiful Me, Little Feat’s Willin’ and Desperado from the Eagles, just to name a few.
Singer, who retired in 2009, has released the new 'Live in Hollywood,' recorded in 1980. I feel if I were to organize it correctly I would try to sing like a Mexican and think like a German. You know what I mean? I get it mixed up, Linda Ronstadt joked to Rolling Stone in 1978. The quip was a comical reference to her Mexican-German heritage but also, in retrospect, a reflection of Ronstadt’s many musical influences and interests, along with the self-deprecating humor she has employed throughout more than five decades of music stardom
