Concerto in F is a composition by George Gershwin for solo piano and orchestra which is closer in form to a traditional concerto than the earlier jazz-influenced Rhapsody in Blue. It was written in 1925 on a commission from the conductor and director Walter Damrosch. It is just over half an hour long

George Gershwin is an American legend and represents the first not-so-secret passageway between jazz and classical worlds. His songs and Porgy and Bess are clearly influenced by the jazz idiom but stand on the popular music side of the passageway. Rhapsody in Blue is one of Gershwin’s signature compositions. It was composed in 3 weeks in 1924 in response to a commission for a jazz concerto by Paul Whiteman for his orchestra. Two years later, Ferde Grofe revised the work for symphony orchestra. To say that Rhapsody in Blue became a success is a gross understatement. This album is a perfect way to begin a small collection of Gershwin works. The performances are magnificent, and the non-remastered analogue sound is Telarc at its best.

Its dramatic and lively with great hall sounds and I believe you can hear a truck rumbling by Symphony Hall in one of the quieter passages. I have the recent release from Analog Productions and it sounds fantastic.
