Nigeria Disco Funk Special: The Sound Of The Underground Lagos Dancefloor 1974-79 ‎(CD, Comp). Can anyone tell me if the inner sleeves were just generic plastic sleeves or particular to this release? I ask because my copy was advertised as opened/played once yet I find it odd it mine came with generic plastic inner sleeves. Thanks all & happy boxing day!

Nigeria Disco Funk Special is an amazing collection of heavy dancefloor grooves from urban Lagos in the '70s - hot and driving slices of funk, disco and boogie that show just how vibrant the music scene was in one of West Africa's most populous and culturally diverse cities. This album may be titled "Nigeria Disco Funk Special" but this is definitely NOT your uncle's brand of Studio 54 disco. Nothing sleek and shiny about these songs; this is gritty, funky stuff, spiced by those addictive Nigerian rhythms .

Nigeria Disco Funk Special: The Sound of the Underground Lagos Dancefloor 1974-1979 offers nine tracks of deep, quite well-produced groove- by the late 70s, Nigeria was home to plenty of high-tech studios to give the country's musicians the sheen they required as they kicked their funk into a new disco gear. Cleret makes the unusual (for him) move of repeating someone else with his inclusion of Joni Haastrup's "Greetings", which previously appeared on Strut's now out of print Nigeria 70 compilation, but if you'd heard the song you probably would've repeated. Otherwise, Cleret goes way off the beaten path. I'm a huge fan of the SJOB Movement's first album (1970's A Move in the Right Direction), but I didn't even know they had a second one. Nevertheless, Cleret sources a slamming disco-funk jam with an avalanche of a synth hook called "Love Affair" from it.
