I don't know about most people, but when I thought of the title for a set of CDs being Gothic Erotica, I envisioned brooding melodies and powerfully seductive voices setting up a background of heady, primal, and lustful emotions.

On track for hidden gems of classic goth rock I one day stumbled across a compilation with a certain odd title and a related, but particular retarded cover. Spreading some words about it seems a good thing in ambition to preserve this box, or at least parts of it, but only for the few who still share interest and love for darker guitar based 80ies sounds and aesthetics. In one and some more ways "Gothic Erotica" - the 6xCD monster is worth mentioning and unique in humour or, to be honest, dilettantism. Full of moronic pics of not-so-erotic leather girls (which exactly repeat in each of the three separate 2xCD boxes), but absolutely empty of any band information, pleasing with plain white booklets, there are several tracks that are repeated, too. You'll find Psychic TV's "Horror House", also "Spanner Badge", "Final Epitaph", and "Lizzy Gone Bad" twice. Maybe there are even more. Not mentioning the mistakes already announced in the notes. Moreover you'll get the usual compilation "bedbugs": one point for The Sisters and their "Temple of Love" - mysterious no-name bands with not-so-far-away names play covers bad (not bad covers!). One point for having hits from the gothic hall of fame: "Israel" and "Bela Lugosi (i)'s dead", but this time not from the bands you'd expect. One more point for having these tracks though they definitly have other content than "erotic and stuff". And one point for leaving out all those bands "from the topic" that could have added some real spirit. So, feel free to miss Sleep Chamber, maybe SabotageQCQC, and even scene-leading specialist Mozart.If you can, laugh about it, and enjoy this special when-we-were-young feeling, spiced with punk, a nice amount of experimentalism, and a melancholic breeze housed in some real great wave-goth-rock pearls from bands that vanished long time ago, from albums that hardly anybody plays anymore. Don't feel ashamed for not getting into the special mood, I'm doubting that this music ever was intended to contain such thing or message. To summarize: there's definitly nothing erotic inside. Buf it's full of great music, indeed!
