If there's any problem with More Than a Woman, Toni Braxton's fourth album, it's that it's so consistent, so much a continuation of its predecessor, The Heat, that it may be hard to pinpoint distinctive characteristics. Unlike that album, it lacks a single as undeniable as "He Wasn't Man Enough," yet much of this album is in a similar sexy spirit. It also doesn't have any ballads as seductive as "Un-break My Heart. In fact, few of the songs stand out, yet that doesn't mean they're bland or generic
Toni Braxton is the debut studio album by American singer Toni Braxton. It was released on July 13, 1993, by LaFace Records and Arista Records. Toni Braxton debuted at number 36 on the Billboard 200 and later spent two non-consecutive weeks atop the chart as well as three non-consecutive weeks atop the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It has sold 5,135,000 copies in the United States and 10 million copies worldwide. The album was primarily produced by . Reid, Babyface, and Daryl Simmons.
Toni Braxton’s fourth album, More Than a Woman, was released on November 18, 2002 through Arista Records. The album is a diverse blend of Toni’s signature ballads along with hip-hop and dance songs. Production was handled by Babyface, Rodney Jerkins, The Neptunes, and Toni’s husband Keri Lewis among others. Toni’s sister Tamar co-wrote and sang backup on several songs. The album debuted at number thirteen on the Billboard 200, selling 98,000 copies in its first week. It was certified gold by the RIAA on December 13, 2002 with support from the lead single Hit the Freeway with Loon.
The album's surprise comes courtesy of Braxton's hubby, Keri Lewis who produced the standout track "Lies, Lies, Lies". The most notable element on this record is the usage of live instrumentation. Toni's vocals also provide an interesting mix, as her gravelly tones are pit against an electric guitar. There's no doubt that More Than A Woman will sell bucket-loads. At age 34 Braxton is in a great position to serve both middle-of-the-road listeners with her high-powered ballads, as well the comrades of the streets with her attitude-ridden take on modern day living

As a result, More Than a Woman is hotter than her predominantly adult contemporary The Heat. The album’s first half alternates between edgy hip-hop-flavored fare (the catchy, Neptunes-helmed first single Hit the Freeway and the club-ready Give It Back ) and more experimental R&B (the futuristic R&B ballad A Better Man and the rock-tinged Lies Lies Lies ). Though varied, More Than a Woman proves to be the singer’s most consistent effort since Toni Braxton.
