Innervisions is the 16th studio album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973, on the Tamla label for Motown Records, a landmark recording of his "classic period". The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues: from drug abuse in "Too High", through inequality and systemic racism in "Living for the City", to love in the ballads "All in Love Is Fair" and "Golden Lady".

Wonder also made no secret of the fact that "He's Misstra Know-It-All" was directed at Tricky Dick, aka Richard Milhouse Nixon, then making headlines (and destroying America's faith in the highest office) with the biggest political scandal of the century.

Innervisions, Stevie Wonder’s 16th album, is a soul masterpiece. Stevie puts his soul into every bit of the album, lyrically and musically. But it’s not just the music that makes Innervsions so amazing, it’s the subject matter. With the classic Living For The City you have frustration over inner city living, Too High gives you the break down on drug abuse & He’s Misstra Know-It-All criticizing Richard Nixon. Innervisions Q&A.

One of Stevie Wonder's best albums, and the one where his more fanciful, free-form moments gel perfectly with his knack for irresistible pop singles, 1973's Innervisions swings between delicate and airy ballads, Latin-influenced rhythms (the hit "Don't Worry 'Bout a Thing"), and his own synth-heavy versions of gut-bucket soul (the determined spiritual questing of "Higher Ground"). Stevie Wonder is now part of the American lexicon of great composers and this album only reflects part of that immense talent.

Stevie Wonder – Innervisions. on Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums list. Might I be one to say that this album has a lot of different points to it. The first track, Too High is a nice little jazz song. It has all the doo-wops that you need to make a soul song. But the second, and title track, Innervisions is a slow and dreary step into the album. Living For The City is the best song on this album. In my opinion it’s the best Stevie Wonder song I’ve ever heard. The gut-wrenching lyrics are of a story, a young black man trying to get away from slavery in the south, therefore he makes his way to New York. He’s not there for five minutes before he gets arrested and beaten and thrown in jail.

Stevie Wonder - Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing. Album : Innervisions (1973). Label : Tamla, Motown. Catalog No. : UICY-9252. Written, Arranged, Produced by Stevie Wonder. One of those excellent finds though was Stevie Wonder and his magnum opus Innervisions. Sure he had other great albums, but none touch the pure genius of this 1973 album. If all this album had were Higher Ground and Living for the City, it would already be a great album, but every track is a great song and an immediate hit. The tune though that kicks off this Soul Week is Golden Lady, the first song that leaped out from my phone that early morning. I had heard it plenty of times before, but now with fresh ears it was something wholly different and exciting.
