The instruments' touch is like the album title, airy, light. I've never heard anything like this and that is alone a singular style choice in The Necks discography. For that matter i love them as a group, for their neverending creativity, their boundless minds from where they seem to extract a new self everytime a new album is composed. It's the same speech for every track of theirs. A new experience for each of their single-track albums, a new way these men experiment with bass, piano and drums.

The Necks have rarely flirted this close to new age music. Aether is simply their best release, a wonderful album that breathes at its own pace. The trick is the same as usual: start on something and play for an hour applying only gradual changes. What is different this time is the tempo - very, very slow - and the attitude. Although the group's music has never been easy to categorize, there was a consensus to consider it jazz, mainly on the strength of the piano/bass/drums instrumentation and a vague sense of swing.

A new experience for each of their single-track albums, a new way these men experiment with bass, piano and drums.A Jazz dream that starts slowly, with sweet drum and bass beats interspersed with silence that more and more merges with the piano taking a largening part in the set. When approaching the middle and over all the end we get lulled by the repeating piano high notes accompanied by the other two instruments, resulting in a compact pattern that will accompany the listener till the end.I have to say, this really stands out as an album in the collection, and what better way to taste it than laying calm in bed, effortless.
