Post Card" was a quiet, sweet, innocent album. While the remastering here is nowhere near as bad as the destruction Rhino has wreaked on some classic 60s albums, the dynamic range in each song still has been squashed a bit (translation: quiet parts made louder in relation to the loud parts) and the relationships between songs has really been squashed-"Y Blodyn Gwyn", for example, is twice as loud as. it should be. The 1991 CD of this album is much better in this respect, although both tack on "Those Were the Days" at the beginning, which sets the wrong tone for. And since Mary Hopkin herself requested that this version of the song not be released, releasing it here reveals a callousness on the part of this CD's producers that I feel is also reflected in the tinkering with the other tracks' loudness. The 2010 remastering is all the more reason to treasure the original vinyl release.
Paul McCartney produced this debut album of twee but pretty, romantic pop-folk.
On 21 February 1969, Hopkin’s debut album Post Card was released, produced entirely by McCartney, who even designed the sleeve. It featured three songs by Donovan, one by Harry Nilsson and a pretty, reflective song written especially for Hopkin by Beatles producer George Martin. Among the additional tracks on the 2010 reissue was ‘Goodbye,’ the McCartney original which soon afterwards became her follow-up hit. It reached No. 2 in Britain, ironically held off the top by The Beatles’ ‘Get Back
