These 5 piano concerti of Beethoven stand in music as one of the great statements of the concertante literature, be they by a great composer or not. They span the early and middle periods of the Bonn master's carreer and present Vladimir Ashkenazy and Sir George Solti with the incomperble CHICAGO SYMPHONY Orchestra on London Records. Both missers Solti and Ashkenazy collaborated much during these years, this 3 Cd set dates from 1973, and the orchestra and it's Music Direcrtor were an unbeatable combination of virtuosity and success. The Chicago Symphony under the baton of Sir George Solti provide a wonderful backdrop to the meticulous pianism of Vladimir Ashkenazy. The pianist recorded these concertos three times, but this compilation is the most profound.
