The Edgar Broughton Band, founded in 1968 in Warwick, England, was an English psychedelic rock group. The band started their career as a blues group under the name of The Edgar Broughton Blues Band, playing to a small following in the region around their hometown of Warwick. However, when the band began to lean towards the emerging psychedelic movement, dropping the 'Blues' from their name as well as their music, Victor Unitt left.
Edgar Broughton Band is the self-titled third album by the Edgar Broughton Band. The album is known amongst fans as "The Meat Album", as the album cover features lots of meat on hangers in a warehouse; a human can also be seen hanging amongst the meat. The 2004 CD reissue features 3 bonus tracks. Several outside musicians were used on this album including Mike Oldfield of Tubular Bells fame. Formed in 1968 in Warwick, England, the Edgar Broughton Band were part of the late 60s British underground blues boom. Led by the Broughton brothers, vocalist/guitarist Edgar Broughton and drummer Steve Broughton, and fleshed out by bassist Arthur Grant and guitarist Victor Unitt (who also briefly served with The Pretty Things), they were contemporaries of Groundhogs, Hawkwind, and The Pink Fairies, but were unique within the movement due to their radical political consciousness (which is highly pertinent).
