Broughton "Tjalkuri" Mitchell's music, as heard on his self-titled debut album (released in 1996 in his native Australia, and picked up for . distribution four years later), is a familiar Australian brand of rock and folk-rock that American listeners who know Midnight Oil, and even the more pop-sounding Men at Work, will recognize. Like the latter, Tjalkuri writes propulsive tunes, played with pop energy by five-piece rock band; like the former, his lyrics sometimes explore social concerns bluntly
Australian singer/songwriter Broughton Mitchell was living with an aboriginal tribe when a member of the tribe named Mitchell died. As an honor to the dead, he was asked to take a different name and was christened Tjalkuri. The transformation was typical of a musician who has combined Western rock styles with traditional native music and played with musicians of both styles. Tjalkuri released his self-titled debut album in Australia in 1996; in June 2000, American independent label Gadfly Records issued it in the .

Mingus is the tenth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, and a collaboration with composer and jazz musician Charles Mingus. Recorded in the months before his death, it would be Mingus's final musical project; the album is wholly dedicated to him. Mingus was released on June 13, 1979. The album is quite experimental, featuring minimalist jazz, over-plucked, buzzing acoustic guitars, and even wolves howling through "The Wolf That Lives in Lindsey".

Notes
Broughton "Tjalkuri" Mitchell's music, as heard on his self-titled debut album (released in 1996 in his native Australia, and picked up for U.S. distribution four years later), is a familiar Australian brand of rock and folk-rock that American listeners who know Midnight Oil, and even the more pop-sounding Men at Work, will recognize. Like the latter, Tjalkuri writes propulsive tunes, played with pop energy by five-piece rock band; like the former, his lyrics sometimes explore social concerns bluntly. "Petrol Is Poison" states its position in its title, for example, while "Drinking" is opposed to liquor. In addition, Tjalkuri's adenoidal voice is often reminiscent of Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett (though it also sometimes recalls the Cure's Robert Smith as well). His songs range from the near-instrumental funk workout of "Take That Bait" to "Anything New," gutbucket rock 'n' roll in the midtempo style of the Rolling Stones. Much of his subject matter is local, but his fervor may bring interest beyond the borders of his own country. ~ William RuhlmannBarcode and Other Identifiers
