Peter Michael McCartney (born 7 January 1944), known professionally as Mike McGear, is a British performing artist and rock photographer who was a member of the groups The Scaffold and Grimms. He is the younger brother of Paul McCartney. Michael and his brother Paul (born 18 June 1942) were both born in the Walton General Hospital in Liverpool, where their mother, Mary McCartney, had previously worked as a nursing sister in charge of the maternity ward
McGear is the second and final solo album by English singer Mike McGear, released in 1974. The album was a collaboration between McGear and his older brother Paul McCartney, who produced the record. All tracks on the album are performed by McCartney's band Wings, although all lead vocals are sung by McGear (McCartney can be heard singing the ending of "What Do We Really Know?", on "Givin' Grease A Ride" and occasional yells and harmony vocals on other tracks)

Mike McGear is actually Paul McCartney's brother; he changed his name in the mid-'60s shortly after the Beatles become famous, not wishing to be perceived as riding Paul's coattails. He was a member of the Scaffold, who recorded some fairly successful comedy rock releases in the late '60s (their "Thank U Very Much" and "Lily Pink" singles were big British hits)
While McGear's album may be strongly reminiscent of Paul McCartney in important respects - the carefully crafted pop/rock arrangements and, of course, the vocals - no one's going to confuse it with Paul himself; the material, with a much more pronounced, droll, British satiric bent than McCartney's, simply isn't that strong.
Mike McGear is a stagename for Mike McCartney, Paul's younger brother, who didn't want to be known solely for his family name. This was no nepotistic one-off project: McGear had already acheived some degree of success in the . with a comedic musical group called Scaffold. He also had already released a solo album, Woman, though he was admittedly quite obscure in the . With this album, Paul really went all-out to help his brother with a mainstream pop/rock album. The two brothers co-wrote 7 of the 10 tracks, with Paul contributing two of his own compositions
