Herr Seele, the pseudonym of Peter Van Heirseele (Torhout, Belgium, April 13, 1959), is a Flemish cartoonist, author, actor, piano tuner and piano collector. He is mainly known for the absurd humor comic strip Cowboy Henk, for which his colleague Kamagurka writes the scripts, while he makes the drawings. The comic has been published in HUMO since 1981 with only a minor interruption from October 2011 until the spring of 2013.

Kamagurka (front) and Herr Seele in 1982. Kamagurka studied Art in Bruges and later performed studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. However, he quit school before he would graduate. Kamagurka still believes this to be his true education and the foundation of the rest of his career. In 1972 he made his debut as cartoonist in De Zeewacht.

SPOILER: True Colors was on the boat going to the UK to play shows and ran into Herr Seele. They talked for a while and he apparently used to go to hardcore shows in the ‘80s so he was amused to meet a current day hardcore band. He’s a well known TV celeb in Belgium, as is Kamagurka. He’s also easy to spot since he looks like a cross between William Burroughs and a skinhead.

Herr Seele was born as Peter van Heirseele in Torhout, Belgium in 1959. He is a comic artist, scriptwriter, TV host and media personality. He studied Fine Arts in Ghent, piano tuning in Wales and restauration in Florence, Italy. In both the comics and television fields, he is best known as the sidekick of Kamagurka.
