Life and Times is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Jim Croce, released in 1973. The album contains the Billboard chart hit "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", one of Croce's most successful songs. Croce was nominated for two 1973 Grammy awards in the "Pop Male Vocalist" and "Record of the Year" categories for the song "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown". All tracks written by Jim Croce. Jim Croce - guitar, vocals. Kenny Ascher - organ. Terry Cashman - vocals. Gary Chester - drums.
Jim Croce's Life and Times LP, released in January 1973, was his second recorded for ABC/Dunhill, and it is brilliant. This album released in early 1973, in my opinion was one of the best ever released. I was a big Croache fan from the beginning and found the folky style of this album to be a joy to have. Some of the songs are sad but the world Jim was living then was sad too. We only write what we feel in songwriting. I still have the music book of this album and loved the memories it brings. I was in love at the time and Jim helped me through a diffacult time in my life.
In 1973 Jim Croce found the pinnacle of his career success and all the bedlam and time on the road which goes along with such success. So, after releasing the successful album Life and Times and finishing the recording for the follow-up, I Got a Name, Croce decided he would retire from music to spend some valuable time with his family following that album’s tour. Unfortunately, Croce was killed in a plane crash on September 20, 1973, following a gig on the Life and Times tour in Louisiana.

Jim Croce’s Greatest Hits album and singles only touched the surface. The man knew how to write a great song. Like my former band leader Michael McKasty recently said, the man inspired you to want to write a song. Jim Croce had released an album in 1966 entitle Facets and in 1969 he released Jim & Ingrid Croce. Both records are great and well worth owning, but it’s 1972 and 1973 records that we love the most. There have been many compilations and live recordings, but it’s still the 1972 and 1973 Jim Croce albums that are a must own for any fan of great music

They hoped that he would give up music after the album failed, and use his college education to pursue a "respectable" profession. However, the album proved a success, with every copy sold. From the mid-1960s to early 1970s, Croce performed with his wife as a duo.
