America is the sixth album by rapper Kurtis Blow, released in 1985 (see 1985 in music). The album includes the song "If I Ruled the World" from the movie Krush Groove, Kurt's biggest hit since "The Breaks" and one of the last of his musical career. The album was the first album Kurtis Blow produced in a new deal with Pollygram Records that gave Kurtis the title, 'Hip Hop's First Millionaire".
Kurtis Blow is the self-titled debut album by American rapper Kurtis Blow. It was released in 1980 by Mercury Records. The record includes the song "The Breaks", which was often sampled later in hip-hop records, mainly for its introduction made by Blow's a cappella vocal, and for the drum break, giving a wordplay dimension to the title. Rappin' Blow, Pt. 2" was issued as a single that had a do-it-yourself B-side, the instrumental version.
Produced by Larry Smith, . Moore & Robert Ford Jr. Album Kurtis Blow. Clap your hands everybody If you got what it takes 'Cause I'm Kurtis Blow and I want you to know That these are the breaks. Curtis "Kurtis Blow" Walker, (born on August 9, 1959, in Harlem, New York) is one of the pioneer rappers in the recording industry, and hip hop's first mainstream star. The Breaks" (1980) is one of hip hop's undisputed classics, with its catchy disco tune and rapping style. Blow was influenced by DJ Hollywood.
Back in hip-hop's old school era - roughly 1978-1982 - albums were the exception and not the rule. Hip-hop became a lot more album-minded with the rise of its second generation (Run-D. Whodini, the Fat Boys, among others) around 1983-1984, but in the beginning, many MCs recorded nothing but singles. Two exceptions were the Sugarhill Gang and Kurtis Blow, whose self-titled debut album of 1980 was among hip-hop's first LPs and was the first rap album to come out on a major label. Thus, Kurtis Blow has serious historic value, although it is mildly uneven.
The album Kurtis Blow is rapper Kurtis Blow's self-titled debut, released in 1980. It includes the famous song "The Breaks", that was often sampled later in hip-hop records, mainly for its introduction made by Blow's a cappella vocal, and for the drum break, giving a wordplay dimension to the title. 2" was issued as a single, that had a "do-it-yourself" B-side, the instrumental version. Takin' Care of Business" is one of the first hip hop and rock'n'roll cross over attempts.
