Ice Cream for Crow is the twelfth studio album by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, released in September 1982. It is the last Don Van Vliet recorded before abruptly retiring from music to devote himself to a career as a painter.

Captain Beefheart closed out his recording career with Ice Cream for Crow, an album that reaffirms his utterly unique amalgam of Delta blues, wailing free jazz and rarified avant-garde motifs.
Ice Cream for Crow, Captain Beefheart’s final album, is often regarded as one of his most cohesive and strongest efforts. Like his two previous releases, Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) and Doc at the Radar Station, this album contains some material originally written for the aborted Bat Chain Puller album in 1976. Ice Cream for Crow can thus be viewed as a culmination of that initial spirit. Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band did not tour in support of the album and disbanded after recording sessions concluded
