Brainbox is a Dutch rock group from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The band was founded in Amsterdam by guitarist Jan Akkerman, drummer Pierre van der Linden and singer Kazimir Lux (Kaz). Their debut single was "Down Man", which established their progressive blues sound. They had several hit singles in the Netherlands, including "Between Alpha and Omega", "Doomsday Train", "Reason to Believe" and "Smile".

Brainbox disbanded not long enough after the album was released with Michel van Dijk joining Alquin. Lux followed a personal career from 1971 and on and teamed up again with Akkerman for a couple of albums from mid- to late-70's. Brainbox reunited in early-80s with Lux, Reynen and van der Linden all on board for some lives and folded.

Brainbox is usually remembered as Dutch heavy progressive band with guitarist Jan Akkerman and drummer Pierre van der Linden - just before they have founded fame in Focus. Many fans still even remember the vocalist Kaz Lux, but nobody ever mentions ‘Parts’ - an official 2nd album recorded by completely revamped line-up (with the exception of drummer Frank Smit) and released by EMI Harvest in 1972. This unjustly forgotten, but great record (now on CD for the first time!) was completely ignored at the time of release, which surely was a big mistake!

This is not the classic Brainbox line up from 1968 - 1971. What happened? Jan Akkerman had already left the group to form Focus with Thijs van Leer. He was replaced with Rudy de Queljoe. A good choice. Many thought that Akkerman leaving was the death blow but the group soldiered on and released a handful of great singles, most of which became hits. When the group returned from a foreign tour they were hurdled into a car and to singer Kaz Lux's surprise, who expected to be brought home to his wife and child, the car went the opposite direction. It turned out that the manager had booked them for a Dutch tour and expected the group to comply. Strained by the recent foreign tour and enraged by his manager's decision to book them for another tour without some kind of a break Kaz Lux left the group on that same day. The rest of the group were also on the brink of a nervous breakdown and decided that Lux's leaving was the final straw and the group broke up.The manager then, in some Fleetwood Mac-ish ploy avant la lettre, auditioned some musicians and made them tour The Netherlands under the guise of Brainbox. He even managed to squeeze out a record deal. Hence this CD.This CD has nothing to do with Jan Akkerman. It has nothing to do with Kaz Lux. Save your money for the real thing!
