This following is the solo discography of Peter Gabriel, an English singer-songwriter, musician and humanitarian activist who rose to fame as the lead vocalist and flautist of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis, Gabriel went on to a successful solo career. His 1986 album, So, is his most commercially successful, selling five million copies in America, and the album's biggest hit, "Sledgehammer", won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards.
Peter Gabriel is the fourth eponymous album released by English rock musician Peter Gabriel; in the United States, the album was originally released under the title Security. The songs on the album cover a wide variety of subject matter. The Rhythm of the Heat" is based on Carl Jung's experience while observing a group of African drummers.
Peter Gabriel's classic 1986 album 'So' spawned some of his biggest hits - and now footage from the concert tour is being remastered for a possible DVD re-release. About 45 minutes of a 1987 show in Athens, Greece hit retailers' shelves more than 20 years ago on a concert tape called 'POV. The 90-minute VHS tape (remember those?) was executive-produced by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, with whom Gabriel also worked on 'Passion,' the Grammy-winning soundtrack for the flick 'The Last Temptation of Christ.

Peter Gabriel: POV, executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, is a document of a 1987 concert gig in Athens. It catches Gabriel running through some of his better-known solo numbers - Biko, Solsbury Hill, Shock the Monkey - with a crack band and waxing politically correct about South Africa. The rest is standard backstage filler reminding us once again that the concert video is a form fast approaching meaninglessness
Games Without Frontiers.
