Wilko Johnson (born John Peter Wilkinson, 12 July 1947) is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a member of the pub rock/rhythm and blues band Dr. Johnson and Dr Feelgood were an influence on the English punk movement. Paul Weller has said of Johnson: "Wilko may not be as famous as some other guitarists, but he's right up there. And there are a lot of people who'll say the same. I can hear Wilko in lots of places.

Wilko Johnson has teamed up with the Who’s Roger Daltrey for an album to be released in March. Going Back Home will feature 10 Johnson originals, from both his solo career and his days with Dr Feelgood and Solid Senders, plus a cover of Bob Dylan’s Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? The album will be prdeceded by a one-off show at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London on 25 February. Daltrey and Johnson met when seated next to each other at an awards ceremony in 2010. It turned out we both loved Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, Daltrey said.

Wilko Johnson, legendary guitarist with Canvey Island pub rock pioneers Dr Feelgood, and Roger Daltrey, lead singer of rock giants The Who are to release a joint album ‘Going Back Home’ on March 10th on the world famous Chess label which has been resurrected especially for the purpose. The album features 11 tracks, ten of which are Wilko originals from both his Dr Feelgood days and solo years, whilst the sole cover on the album is a version of Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited classic ‘Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window’.

Studio album by Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey. Johnson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2013, but was well enough to press ahead with the collaboration when The Who finished their world tour. Going Back Home was recorded in the space of a week in November 2013. According to Johnson, "Roger jumped up and said, 'Let's do it,'. He knew this lovely little studio called Yellow Fish in Uckfield. Unfortunate name for a place, but a great studio Some of the musicians working with Johnson and Daltrey were current and past Blockheads.

Given the renewed interest in all things Dr. Feelgood and guitarist Wilko Johnson due to Julien Temple's acclaimed film Oil City Confidential, about the band and its iconic songwriter and axeman, this best-of collection was an inevitability, though one long overdue. Though it’s true that Johnson spent a bit of time as a member of Ian Dury’s Blockheads, that is not the focus of either of these volumes issued by Cadiz. Musically, the 12 tracks of material on volume one are rich and varied, and carry Johnson’s singular guitar style - though none of it is live and therefore lacks some of the sheer kinetic insanity of the live performances.
