Quadrophenia is the soundtrack album to the 1979 film Quadrophenia which refers to the 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia. It was initially released on Polydor Records in 1979 as a cassette and LP and was re-released as a compact disc in 1993 and 2001. The album was dedicated to Peter Meaden, a prominent Mod and first manager of The Who, who had died a year prior to the album's release.

Quadrophenia - Album Art Lyrics. The album explores four aspects of one character, exemplified by the members of The Who: A tough guy, Helpless Dancer (Roger Daltrey). A romantic, Is It Me? (John Entwistle). A bloody lunatic, Bell Boy (Keith Moon). A beggar, a hypocrite, Love Reign O'er Me (Pete Townshend). Quadrophenia Q&A.
Quadrophenia was originally released as a double album by Track Records in November 1973 (Track 2657 013). Released to coincide with The Who’s first UK and US tours for two years, it reached in both countries’ album charts. The first CD version (Polydor 831 072-2) was released in the early 1980s, followed by a remastered double CD in 1996 (Polydor 531 971-2). In the US it was released in October 1973 (MCA2 10004), followed by a CD (MCA MCAD 2-6895), a remastered gold disc (MFSL UDCD 2-550) and in 1996, a remixed and remastered version (MCA MCAD2-11463)
Musically, this album is also an incredible achievement for the band. Pete Townshend becomes more than just a great rhythm guitarist on this album and provides many great lead moments, especially in the two instrumental pieces (Quadrophenia and The Rock). John Entwistle is at his creative best bass-wise, offering many incredibly tricky and unforgettably catchy basslines (and for those who've gotten the treat to see the live bass solo that's always been included in 5'15, you get to see the Ox really cut loose).

Quadrophenia is the only Who album entirely composed by Pete Townshend. The group started work on the album in 1972, trying to follow up Tommy and Who's Next, both of which had achieved substantial critical and commercial success. Recording was delayed while bassist John Entwistle and singer Roger Daltrey recorded solo albums and drummer Keith Moon worked on films. Because a new studio was not finished in time, the group had to use Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio.
Quadrophenia is in the running for the best Who album ever. I consider it definitively in the top three, along with Tommy and Who's Next. I really like this reissue. The sound is fine, and it includes the bonus track demos on disc two, but doesn't include the clear plastic outer sleeve that's usually included in this deluxe series.
This Album was originally released as 2-LP in 1973. Recorded at "The Kitchen" in Thessally Road, Battersea, while building was still in progress. Mixed at Eel Pie Sound. from the booklet ) Recorded at Olympic Studios, London, Ramport Studios in Battersea, London, with Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio, May–June 1972, May–September 1973 using 16-track recording. I'm lucky enough to have a copy of this and quite simply in my opinion is the best Mastering/sounding version of this album I've heard. Reply Notify me Helpful.
