Graham Parker and The Rumour were one of the four support acts for Bob Dylan at The Picnic at Blackbushe on 15 July 1978, playing in front of a huge crowd. The band also opened Richard Branson's new club The Venue in November 1978 in London. Energized by his new label, Arista Records, and with record producer Jack Nitzsche, Parker wrote the songs that would form the basis for Squeezing Out Sparks, widely held to be the best album of his career. For this album, The Rumour's brass section, prominent on all previous albums, was jettisoned. His follow-up to The Up Escalator, 1982's Another Grey Area, used session musicians Nicky Hopkins and Hugh McCracken

Graham Parker's ANOTHER GREY AREA is a must-have just for the CD bonus track "Mercury Poisoning," a 1979 song previously released to radio stations only. That is, unless you wish to purchase his 1976-91 anthology PASSION IS NO ORDINARY WORD, the other GP release that I know has that song. As for the original (1981) ANOTHER GREY AREA tunes, about half range from good to excellent. In the right mood, I enjoy the album for its radio-friendly sound

Parker’s an underdog again on Another Grey Area, and he clearly feels at home.

The Up Escalator is an album by Graham Parker and The Rumour and was released on May 23, 1980 by Stiff Records as LP (SEEZ 23) and as cassette (ZSEEZ 23). In the USA, the album was released by Arista. The Up Escalator was released as the follow-up to Parker's successful 1979 release, Squeezing Out Sparks.
