It was released as the first single from the band’s third album Darklands (1987). The single peaked at number 6 in Ireland and at in the UK singles chart.
Darklands is the second album by Scottish noise pop band The Jesus and Mary Chain. After the release of Psychocandy, the band had become famous for their highly abrasive, over-distorted wall of feedback sound. So, in response, the band toned it down for Darklands, an album that’s been described as the calm after storm. The album was jointly produced by Bill Price (who’s produced Harry Nilsson, The Clash & Sex Pistols) and John Loder (Big Black, Ministry & Fugazi).
