The First Baptist Church in the City of New York is a Christian congregation based in a sanctuary built in 1893 at the intersection of Broadway and West 79th Street in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. The church is a conservative, independent, evangelistic, mission-oriented church in fellowship with the Southern Baptist Convention. The first attempt to establish a Baptist presence in New York City dates to 1711, when William Wightman began his ministry.

The First Baptist Church and Society is an historic Baptist church on Baptist Street in Swansea, Massachusetts. The congregation, founded in 1663, is the oldest Baptist congregation in Massachusetts and one of the oldest in the United States. The congregation was founded in 1663 by John Myles as the first Baptist congregation in Massachusetts, and Myles brought the Ilston Book with him from Swansea in Wales. The congregation in Swansea, Massachusetts was located relatively nearby the First Baptist Church in America in Providence. The current Greek Revival meeting house was constructed in 1848.

Are soloists and choir effectively leading and supporting the congregation in its worship or are they merely displaying their virtuosity? Do the hymns and choruses we sing express the faith of the gathered community or do they tend toward individual and private expressions of faith? Is the music appropriate to the ability of the congregation?

My father’s home church.
