Freedom Call is a German power metal band formed in 1998. The band tours regularly and the current line-up includes two original members including lead vocalist and songwriter, Chris Bay. Freedom Call has released 12 albums in total, nine of these studio albums. Freedom Call's frontman Chris Bay's vocal talent was more or less inherited from his grandfather, an opera singer with the Berlin State Opera, and his mother, who was a sought-after chorus singer.

For power metaliers, Freedom Call have one of the classiest sounds around. I can barely listen to their music after all these years, without getting chills. There are presently four Freedom Call studio albums and all are solid efforts but for some reason, Crystal Empire strikes a higher chord in my aural senses. I chose to write about this album because, in my humble opinion, it beats out the others by a hair. Freedom Call is one of those rare bands, where all the band members sing and join in the harmony, like Asia or Styx. Their music is what is regarded as Epic or Heroic Power Metal, which.

if you're into traditional Power Metal, you should pay attention to Freedom Call. This German band emerged from the unknown in 1999 with the album Stairway To Fairyland. But with 2001's Crystal Empire, they really reached another level. Around their leader Crhis Bay, it's not surprising to find Daniel Zimmermann, the rhythm master of Gamma Ray.
