When You Land Here, It's Time to Return is a full-length album released by indie rock band Flake Music (now known as The Shins). The album was recorded in 1997 and subsequently released on Omnibus Records. In a May 2009 interview with Pitchfork Media, frontman James Mercer announced plans to re-release the album on his own record label, Aural Apothecary. The new version of the album has been mixed by Kennie Takahashi, best known as Danger Mouse's sound engineer

The band released two 7" singles and a full-length album When You Land Here It's Time to Return on Omnibus Records and were touring with Modest Mouse when they were signed to Sub Pop Records. The band's first two records, Oh, Inverted World (2001) and Chutes Too Narrow (2003) performed well commercially and received critical acclaim. appearing on numerous music critics' and publications' end-of-year albums lists. It also became their first album to chart, peaking at number 86 on the Billboard 20. .Mainstream success (2004–07).

From 1992 to 1997, Flake Music released several singles before releasing When You Land Her. n 1997. Upon the album’s release, Flake Music began touring largely due to support from Modest Mouse, amongst others. In 1996, Mercer started The Shins as an outlet for his songwriting, and the rest is well-known history.

Before the new Shins album, he plans to re-release Flake Music's 1997 album When You Land Here, It's Time to Return, which has been remixed by Danger Mouse's mixing engineer Kennie Takahashi. He appears on a track on the forthcoming Dark Night of the Soul album from Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, which he sounded quite excited about.

When You Land Here, It's Time to Return is the ultimate definition of pop; following in the dual footsteps of jangling indie pop and '60s-inspired Elephant 6 rock (Apples in Stereo, Beulah), Flake Music churn out incredibly sunny, peaceful, and generally fun guitar pop that's pretty difficult not to like. The album's only flaw is its tendency to slip into almost emo-ish constructions (standard Braid and Boys Life moves) - thankfully, though, this leaning is rare in comparison to the charming pop that makes When You Land Here so lovable
