Weasels Ripped My Flesh is the seventh studio album by the American rock band the Mothers of Invention, and the tenth overall by Frank Zappa, released in 1970. It is the second album released after the Mothers disbanded in 1969, preceded by Burnt Weeny Sandwich. In contrast to its predecessor, which almost entirely focused on studio recordings of arranged compositions, Weasels Ripped My Flesh consists of a combination of live and studio recordings and features more improvisation.

From the beginning, Frank Zappa cultivated a role as voice of the freaks - imaginative outsiders who didn't fit comfortably into any group. We're Only in It for the Money is the ultimate expression of that sensibility, a satirical masterpiece that simultaneously skewered the hippies and the straights as prisoners of the same narrow-minded, superficial phoniness. The second half shows where his sympathies lie, with character sketches of Zappa's real-life freak acquaintances, a carefree utopia in "Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance," and the strident, unironic protest "Mother People. Regardless of how dark the subject matter, there's a pervasively surreal, whimsical flavor to the music, sort of like Sgt. Pepper as a creepy nightmare.

The Mothers of Invention were an American rock band from California. Formed in 1964, their work is marked by the use of sonic experimentation, innovative album art, and elaborate live shows. Originally an R&B band called the Soul Giants, the band's first lineup included Ray Collins, David Coronado, Ray Hunt, Roy Estrada and Jimmy Carl Black. Frank Zappa was asked to take over as the guitarist following a fight between Collins and Coronado, the band's original saxophonist/leader.

Essential (Frank Zappa’s classic albums).

three weeks before Christmas. The wait dulled my expectations somewhat, as I was very curious to hear Zappa's compositions after his great first album "Freak Out!". The social satire on this album is much more direct and biting than his first. Plastic People" satirizes exactly those persons in the title.

Zappa leads the band through a mini opera of sorts throughout the album, armed with musical chops and stacks of jokes. That juxtaposition of the musically intricate and the lyrically juvenile is fully on display in "Bwana Dik": "I've got the thing you need, I am endowed beyond your wildest Clearasil-spattered fantasies," Kaylan sings over typical Zappa complexity. It's almost too innocent and stupid to be filthy," Kaylan told Goldmine in 2002. It took some of the harshness away from it, and it made even Zappa's caustic humor appear palatable - not only to those people who knew us in the audience, but to those who didn't. We were still nonthreatening. When the thing came out on John's album, Frank was very upset. John and his compadres had gone in and redone the tracks.

It blew away the depressing dark cloud that had been hovering over my world and revealed a magnificently shimmering, star-filled night sky. It was then that I realized for the first time how truly beautiful and uplifting music could be. And I wasn't alone. The album has that warm, fat analog sound that just feels good on the ears. All the instruments and vocals are masterfully arranged and recorded so that you can hear (and fetish) every little vibrational morsel. This book also offers a glimpse into the way Frank musically stacked his elements to create tapestries of rich, harmonic sounds. Not to mention, you get all the lyrics to ponder: " 'Arf,' she said.

Unfortunately the second Sofa piece is much less a success than its first instalments on the other side of the vinyl. This, as usual, goes in every possible musical direction and is just too confusing to be considered as highly recommendable. The album contains many of Zappa's gross & strange guitar solos. George Duke plays some good piano parts. I'll say the album has a rather complex, catchy & rhythmic rock tendency, but it is not necessarily addictive.
