Gordon formed his first rock band, the Marketts in 1961. Recognizing the start of a new musical surfing craze, Gordon wrote and co-produced the band’s first hit song, Surfer’s Stomp, shortly after the group was formed. In 1963 the band signed with co-producer Joe Saraceno under the Warner Bros.

Summer of Love (stylized as SUMMER of LOVE) is the sixth greatest hits album by Japanese singer-songwriter Kumi Koda, released on July 22, 2015 through Rhythm Zone. It follows her five previous greatest hits albums, Best: First Things (2005), Best: Second Session (2006), Best: Bounce & Lovers (2007), Out Works & Collaboration Best (2009), and Best: Third Universe/Universe (2010)

Summer Means New Love" is an instrumental composed by Brian Wilson for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was originally released on June 28, 1965 on their album Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!). A year later, it was released as the B-side to Brian Wilson's first single, "Caroline, No", which subsequently appeared on Pet Sounds. The instrumental has been cited as one forerunner to the type of arrangements Brian Wilson would later experiment with on Pet Sounds the following year.

The Marketts' line-up featured Michael Z. Gordon and various session musicians from the Los Angeles area, including drummer Hal Blaine. The group name was originally spelled "Mar-Kets". The group's direction was spearheaded by producer Joe Saraceno and Michael Z. Gordon, although Saraceno could not arrange or play on any of the group's material. Gordon's songs which were composed for the Marketts are best remembered for their surf rock sound, though not all of their material has this sound; Gordon took the group's style in whatever.
