Deep Cuts is the second studio album by Swedish electronic music duo The Knife, released on 17 January 2003 by Rabid Records. The 2004 version contains three additional tracks (taken from Hannah med H Soundtrack) and is packaged with a DVD of music videos. On 31 October 2006, Mute Records issued Deep Cuts and The Knife's eponymous debut album in the United States, marking the first US release of both albums. The lead single was "Heartbeats".
The Knife is the debut studio album by Swedish electronic music duo The Knife. It was released on 5 February 2001 by Rabid Records. The album's recordings started early in the summer of 1999 in a cottage on the Swedish island of Tjörn. The duo also recorded it in their flats in Gothenburg and Stockholm, and in a rehearsal studio in the Hökarängen district of Stockholm.
The second album from the Knife, Deep Cuts saw wide release only after the success of 2006's Silent Shout, a more dance-oriented work than its dark, moody successor. While the wonderful quirks of the Swedish brother/sister duo - namely distorted vocals and prominent synth lines - are present, they are often used in shimmering, club-ready contexts, as on the vibrant "Heartbeats" (later covered by indie-folk performer José Gonzalez) and "You Take My Breath Away," which skates along nimbly on a sheet of icy beats
Deep Cuts (from 2003) shows the Knife can write solid songs when they feel like it ("Heartbeats"), and it packs enough engaging bizarro-pop for curious listeners to stomach junk like the sub-sub-Falco "Handy-Man. Deep Cuts sounds like a smear. It is stuffed with too many ideas, feels terminally anxious, and starts with one of the most OK Knife songs (I like 'Heartbeats,' it just doesn't give me the Knife shivers I require. Somehow, it still works as a cohesive fever dream. The production keeps it focused, even when you have silly interludes like 'Hangin Ou. Ultimately, Deep Cuts is not perfect, but such a wild and different take on pop music, I find. 2mo. EntryIncomplete.

More than just a great pop album, the record boasted a truck of exotic characters, textures, and ideas. In the sense that it etched out a world with a strange but identifiable internal logic, it felt a little bit like a fantasy writer's breakthrough novel, except with the Dreijers playacting their way through every goblin, ghost, and spook. Where The Knife comes reissued as-is, without extras, Deep Cuts arrives packaged with six bonus tracks and an additional DVD of videos.
