As Time Goes By is the posthumous fourteenth and final studio album by American music duo Carpenters. It was initially released in Japan on August 1, 2001. These discrepancies were not resolved until late 2003, delaying the album's international date of release until April 13, 2004.

As Time Goes By is a collection of songs taken from demos, live shows, and television performances recorded by the Carpenters between 1967 and 1980. In his liner notes Richard Carpenter says this is a record for hardcore Carpenters fans only and he is right. The songs from the various TV specials the duo recorded are cute, mostly versions of standards like "I Got Rhythm," versions of the hits of the day, and Richard Carpenter instrumentals.

This Carpenters album was released in 2004. It features rarities, outtakes and previously unreleased material from their garage studio years before they hit it big, along with music from some of their television specials. Great liner notes and track by track history by Richard Carpenter. How can you criticize any Carpenter's album? Karen Carpenter was one of the best female pop vocalists of our time. The song "As Time Goes By" (Herman Humpfeld from "Casablanca") is not on this album, so it is a curious title.
