The Stone Roses is the debut studio album by English rock band the Stone Roses. It was recorded mostly at Battery Studios in London with producer John Leckie from June 1988 to February 1989 and released in May of that year by Silvertone Records. The Stone Roses was not an immediate success, but grew popular with the band's high-profile concert performances, which also helped establish them as fixtures of the Madchester and baggy cultural scenes.

1989 - Unbelievable sounds from Manchester, none of which were by the Stone Roses - 'Vini Reilly' by Durutti Column, 'Justice (Just Us)' by Ruthless Rap Assassins, King Of The Slums 'Barbarous English Fayre'. Mostly forgotten, all pointing ways unexplored rather than roads now potholed with overuse. See, if you were looking the other side of your eye when Year Zero for lad-rock got declared, if you were otherwise distracted, the Stone Roses didn't-mean-SHIT to you. And ever since then, you may have never actually listened to this album. If the 'Roses had released these three tracks as an EP and then died in a van-crash, taken with the two singles that preceded the album, they'd be nudging the greats. And I'd have them up there with Nightmares On Wax, LFO, AC Temple and The Happy Mondays as the 'up North stuff' we gave a fuck about down here in the middle near the end of the 80s.

Ian, John, Mani and Reni. You can now watch the official video for Ian Brown's ‘First World Problems’ as directed by Ian himself. The single is taken from the forthcoming album ‘Ripples’ released on 1st March 2019.

THE STONE ROSES were four lads from Manchester who believed they could be better than the Beatles. They had influences, sure, but they wanted to be individual. Because only then could they last. Only then would they mean something to future generations. The Stone Roses survives and shines because the band wanted their debut album to be a timeless record. Listening to it may take you back to baggy, to Madchester, to ecstasy and dancing in fields in floppy hats and flares. But it also exists in its very own space. Sometimes it's cool to be arrogant

The Roses were the first and best band to emerge from the Manchester ‘Baggy’ scene and to me; they are even more British than The Kinks. Their first, self titled, album is widely considered to be one of the finest debut albums of all time and is oft included in top 20 album polls. None of the melodies work, none of the instrumentals are that great, how did this song get on over ‘Tears’""". 14. This Is The One This however is pure genius. Back to the first album and you really can tell. I have The Complete Stone Roses, so my opinion isn't based on this album in particular, but similar enough. youcancallmegod April 4th 2005.

The Stone Roses’ self-titled album opens with a nondescript whoosh-as if you’re slowly chugging to the lofty introductory peak of a rollercoaster. But once Mani’s bass line quietly wriggles on I Wanna Be Adored, it’s easy to feel the celestial ascending energy start to boil over. The timbre of John Squire’s jangly guitar lines mesh with Brown’s sky-high voice, spouting contagious self-belief or chest-beating arrogance (depending on who you ask). Unlike most bands, none of the members of The Stone Roses’ classic lineup were disposable. Reni’s backing vocal harmonies added an angelic glaze, and his supernatural ease on the drum kit allowed them to experiment with nontraditional rhythms ( Elephant Stone, Fools Gold ). In addition to songwriting duties with Brown, John Squire’s coiled guitar riffs always rang with such a bewildering elusiveness, despite their eerie familiarity.
