Individually, each of these musicians is well-known for both solo and ensemble work, but, together on one CD, they are a sort of dream team of early music.

Marin Marais was the central figure in the French school of bass-viol composers and performers that flourished during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He spent his entire life in Paris, and the greater part of it in royal service  . Marijke Miessen, Anner Bylsma, Peter Wispelwey, Bob van Asperen.

18th-century French literature is French literature written between 1715, the year of the death of King Louis XIV of France, and 1798, the year of the coup d'État of Bonaparte which brought the Consulate to power, concluded the French Revolution, and began the modern era of French history.
