03) It’s unfortunate that many releases in the abstract electronic world are under-appreciated or misrepresented. So, is this the case with Jacob Madsen from Denmark and his ‘Karsten Pflum’ moniker? Actually, Jacob is an accomplished musician of several years having played guitar in heavy metal bands and currently performing gigs around Europe that support electronic music. Interesting story so far, isn’t it? Did we mention that he can also play the bagpipes too? All the above is true, and what you’re about to read below should give you some indication on what to expect with his debut full length on UK’s Worm Interface.

Menacing club music-complete with cawing crow samples-from a Japanese producer currently making waves with his tough, hybridized dance sounds. It's from his new split EP with KΣITO.

Karsten Pflum ‎– Love Canticles. Label: Touched - Music For Macmillan Cancer Support ‎– TM37. Format: 10 File, MP3, Album, 320 kbps. Love Canticles' is a solid collection of squelch, rattle and drop - guaranteed to please our followers and make your feet tap. Kicking off with a dissonance that plays with your expectations of melody, the whole thing is solidified with a strong mix of conventional and broken rhythms.

Karsten Pflum is a restlessly creative Danish musician who has built a wide-ranging discography of rhythmically complex, melodic electronic music which rivals that of the best artists on Skam or Rephlex, although he has never received quite as much recognition. Born Jacob Helverskov Madsen, he began creating music under the name Slaphead Faun, but switched to the moniker Karsten Pflum for his first release, 2002's "Lire Skuffe" 7" on Snake Eyes (a sublabel of Worm Interface). Pflum's next album for Hymen, Sleepwald, was a largely beatless excursion into ambient music. 2014 digital EP Toffyland Tracks on Merry Ex-Mas Records was closer to acid techno/electro, and 2015's Dode (his third album for Hymen) was a collection of clear-cut ambient electro inspired by role-playing games.

It's interesting how time has a way of distilling genius. I bought this lovely album years ago, in the bargain bin a year after it had come out. Upon first listen i classified it as 'average' electronica and stuck it with the rest of the worm stuff... But, holy crunk, this thing is sick! Recently rediscovered, I found it to be incredibly tight, well crafted and full of soul. There are a few stompers, some drifters, but it is all amazing. The melodies are continually inventive and delightful and the programming is fresh and catchy in the best meanings of the word. A solid album of understated genius. Check it if you like music.

This man has created some of the most memorable melodies I have heard in a long time. The wonderful flowing of the synth leads in the first five tracks are just so smooth and relaxing. The voice sample in Vindkode keeps me coming back to it's eclectic mixture of insane laughter, childish rythms, and circus ruckus. The jazzy flute riffs and hollow broken beats of Baronen Og Husset make me feel at one with the spirit that Jacob Madsen has instilled in his music. One of my favorite and most memorable albums of all time.
