Mutations is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Beck, released on November 3, 1998 by DGC Records. Though less commercially successful than the preceding Odelay, it won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Mutations was produced by Nigel Godrich, who was well-known at that point for his previous work with Radiohead. The album contains a number of Moog keyboards, acoustic guitars, and string arrangements.

Only 6 left in stock (more on the way). On his 1996 breakthrough album Odelay, Beck Hansen surprised a sleepy music community by blending funk, rock, rap, alternative, and electronica in ways that were both startlingly innovative and irresistibly catchy. Mutations is equally attention-grabbing but not in the k-meets-indie-geek style you might expect. Reflective and plaintive, the album reveals Beck's more sentimental side with an eclectic collection of acoustic-based songs that will sound familiar to anyone who cherishes his indie-rock effort One Foot in the Grave.
Idk why it feels like this isn't seen as a true Beck album. It's better than nearly everything in his discography. Tropicalia is like the smoothest song he's ever created. Or consider a donation? #17.
Release Date: 1998 Tracklist. but it's probably the most easy listening album he has released. effortlessly combining acoustic rock, blues, country and even latin. Of course, when Beck incorperates music styles, he usually does it on his terms. and creative genrehopping on certain occasions.
Beck Hansen has had one of the most interesting and singular career arcs of any musician of his generation, and his sixth album, Mutations, marked a turning point in a catalog filled with turning points. It is the album that solidified the idea that Beck is prone to do whatever he wants. Is it also possible this is where we first saw a glimpse of the real Beck, and therefore every time he was chasing down some sort of impulse, the expectation is that this is the mean to which he would inevitably return. By 1998, Beck was in the rare position of being both unimpeachably cool and absolutely huge. His 1996 everything-at-once album Odelay was an era-defining smash. He lodged alt-rock radio hits in an era where that still mattered, performed at the Grammys, losing Album Of The Year to Celine Dion.
