Karova (Digital Bonus) When talking about the music of Com Truise (one of the many pseudonyms of New Jersey designer/musician Seth Haley), the nostalgia bit inevitably comes up, so let’s get that out of the way. Yes, his songs tap classic sci-fi and proto-electro in a way that is distinctly early eighties in scope.

Galactic Melt is Seth Haley's first album of all-new material for Ghostly International, following the label’s expanded reissue of Cyanide Sisters and a three-track single. It offers more bent fusions of synth funk, synth pop, and Italo disco - hypnotically torpid, bass-heavy instrumentals that tend to be as tautly constructed as pop songs.

Galactic Melt is the debut studio album by American electronic musician Com Truise, released on June 5, 2011 by the independent record label Ghostly International.

Don't get me wrong: with its staccato, bonus level synth stabs, keening psychedelia and 1980s-drenched drum sounds, Melt is still very identifiably Truise.

Com Truise - Galactic Melt I'm sure the last thing that you're thinking right now is "I wish I had another album full of '80s synth jams," never mind from someone who calls themselves Com Truise. But hold on a second: there might be something different about Com Truise. Or maybe there isn't. It's honestly hard to tell these days. Com Truise's palette is so painstakingly conceived that it might fool you into thinking it's some buried gem from 1987. The only thing that marks it as 2011 is its unique sense of wry humour (titles like "VHS Sex") or the bits of occasional gnarly distortion ("Cathode Girls"). The most striking thing about Galactic Melt is its melancholy. Even on a track like "VHS Sex"-where a robot voiceover deadpans the ridiculous title-there are moments when the synths seem to break their facade into split seconds of grief or sadness.

Fantastic quality pressing. Little to no surface noise and the mix is very lively. One of the better sounding records I own.

Got my vinyl copy in early 18', years after finding it on Youtube and getting the cd. The collector in me wanted the colored version, but just getting a copy is fine. A quintessential view of the chillwave sound done proper and with rhythmic edits that touch into idm. Groove funk basslines for days. Just perfect.

excellent CD if anyone misses the thick heavy sounding synths from days of old this is i have not heard all his work as i only buy CD's hence this release and my review ;) the music here is quite slow similar to some "Gun Ship" tracks.i also agree with the other reviewer the tracks are kind of short as not to be to repetitive i think......it is also a bit short for a CD at around 45 minutes anyhow its different and strangely melodic music 5/5

This pink edition lives up to the sound quality that other reviewers are commenting about on past releases, this sounds awesome with very minimal surface noise.

Probably the best sounding vinyl I own. 45RPM release means even the inner tracks on each side sound amazing. There's something about this release that just sounds unbelievably tight and alive --- the clarity of the highs is simply mind blowing. I do wish it had custom inner sleeves, though. As is, comes with only standard paper ones. (Posted this comment originally on the Orange release -- but I do in fact own the black one.)
Nalaylewe
Agreed, it sounds amazing! I think I only paid $22 for this one, an absolute steal; so glad to own it.

Great album. Happy to add this to the collection. This and In Decay are two of my favorite albums over the last few years.

I've noticed that my vinyl has some spots which kinda look like mold on them but it isn't dirt or anything but actually pressed in the vinyl itself. Is this intended or do I own a bad copy of some sort?
Amerikan_Volga
I imagine is a side-effect of mixing the color. My copy is mostly pure with the occasional discoloration, but the patterns are consistent with a pressing that is subtly (but intentionally) marbled.

Very very good. You will feel like an 80's serial killer, running naked on a SoCal beach.REpressingS do not come in the gatefold as this original does. First repress was orange vinyl, current repress is black vinyl.
Uaha
Excellent description, spot on. However just to clarify, the original pressing is 180g black vinyl in an orange gatefold jacket. Re-pressings where with a black jacket, with one on orange vinyl.

the ghostly website is now selling copies with a black vinyl. anyone have it yet so they can update it on here?

An absolutely amazing electronic album that's totally unique and kicks ass all the way through, every song. I had to get the vinyl, it sounds so awesome. Highly recommended, if you like it also try Arnaud Rebotini!
Ieslyaenn
Arnaud Rebotini's solo material sounds like Ed Banger stuff, with some minimal dark techno mixed in. Not very Com Truise sounding. Maybe I was listening to the wrong album ("Someone Gave Me Religion" LP)... is there one you recommend?

The cheeky Com Truise release his full-length, GALACTIC MELT, and right from the first tones of "Terminal," you're transported back to the 1980s. "VHS Sex" is like shiny Spandex stretched over a pair of supple thighs, while "Air Cal" invites you to stretch out on a Naugahyde sofa. The moodiness of "Hyperlips" packs a good bit of punch, and "Brokendate" and "Ether Drift" linger in the air. Com Truise relies almost entirely on his analogue-sounding synth pads, and while this could get tiring, the tracks stay relatively short, so that they don't overstay their welcome. But listening to the album is like playing a never-ending game of Tron, and that's not a bad thing.
Peras
thanks for the review, would never of found this otherwise :)

Is it just me or does this play at 45 rpm? What's up with that?
Hi_Jacker
You do realize that 45RPM has theoretically higher sound quality, right? I don't get why you'd sell it, I intentionally seek out 45s whenever possible.
Bundis
I kind of like it.
inetserfer
It's just weird. I've never seen this. Maybe it's just me that's being weird.
Ƀ⁞₳⁞Ð Ƀ⁞Ǿ⁞Ɏ
Why did it ruin it for you? Just play it at 45 rpm and it's fine.
Hulbine
Yeah, I wrote to Ghostly about this, and they told me that this should play at normal speed. But it doesn't. It ruins every track. I sold mine. Sad.
Zetadda
Why? Seems weird to me.
Anarahuginn
Yes its 45rpm

Definitely one of the very best electronic albums I discovered in years!!! I was pulled to the album cover like a magnet and decided to check it out. This album makes me very optimistic and reminds me of those days when I played videogames on my Commodore 64. The music is more than just nostalgia. There's a fresh mix of new wave, synth pop and hip-hop. You can just sit down, relax and listen to the wonderful melodic layers or get a whole dance floor moving with these tunes! A perfect album!
Ienekan
perfect. indeed.
Shem
Ghostly International will definitely release a repress of "Galactic Melt" soon. This information comes first hand from one of the label guys.
Wenyost
I saw him live on june 6. Unforgettable experience! One of the best concerts ever! He told me after the concert that the vinyl reissue will not be a gatefold and it seems to have a black cover: http://www.hhv.de/item_278169.html He also confirmed the vinyl release of Cyanide Sisters (11 tracks) for mid july!
