Employment is the debut studio album by English indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs, released in March 2005 on B-Unique Records. Employment takes its inspirations from the Britpop and new wave movements, 1970s-era punk rock and Beach Boys-esque West Coast music. The album originally charted at number three in the UK Albums Chart on 13 March 2005, but charted at number two almost a year after its release, due to the band's success at the Brit Awards.

Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds who formed in 2000 as Parva, releasing one studio album, 22, in 2003, before renaming and establishing themselves in their current name that same year. Since their formation the band consists of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew "Whitey" White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist and occasional drummer Nick "Peanut" Baines and since 2013 drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson who left the band in late 2012.

Kaiser Chiefs are another of these groups, although their first album, Employment, isn't in the same league as the debuts from either of their above-mentioned countrymen. One reason for this is that the band keeps the energy level constant over the course of the entire disc. There's plenty of variety in the material- with different rhythmic feels and tempos- but every song is approached with the same kind of in-your-face ebullience as the others, an approach that grows tiring. Still, it's deadly entertaining in bursts- especially if you pick out the right bursts

The trio were later joined by Andrew White (guitar) and Ricky Wilson (vocals).

This album was the culmination of everything. Every struggle, every hated job, every night out, every doubt that we weren’t fucking our lives up. A culmination that just happened to be accidentally perfectly timed and would thrust us way beyond our wildest dreams. I can still taste the air that surrounded this time in our lives. It was a blurred line between anxiety and excitement while learning to open bottles of beer with almost anything in your pockets.
