In this crucial five-year period for NWOBHM, signed to French Carrere Records - a singles-oriented disco label, stalwarts Saxon despite management and distribution issues, the band ultimately carved a niche with a series of classic albums. Just before recording their debut, Biff Byford & Co. decided to change the band name from Son Of A Bitch to Saxon. That proved to be a smart move because a term of abuse as band name closes many doors. From the second album, Saxon knows its strengths and what kind of songs suits them best. Nevertheless, Saxon's debut turned out to be an interesting with a few highlights like "Frozen Rainbow", "Judgement Day" and the swinging "Stallions Of The Highway". this is a fantastic 3 cd set that consists of some of the best songs saxon did back in the 80s, you get your usual typical hits from 1980 through 1985 and then you get some b sides, a couple of songs from there 1979 debut as well as more from the last 3 saxon albums from the 80s that where. released between 1985 and 1988. this track selection was sanctioned by biff personally and i think its one of the best for OLD saxon fans.
