The Soft Moon is the debut studio album by American post-punk band the Soft Moon. It was released on November 16, 2010 by Captured Tracks. The album was recorded over the span of a year in frontman Luis Vasquez's apartment.

Criminal’, The Soft Moon's fourth studio album, is a confessional work. Through the stark lens of shame and guilt that has followed Luis Vasquez since a violent childhood growing up within the humming ambient sprawl of 80s Mojave Desert, here he documents the gut-wrenching sound of going to war with himself. Taking krautrock's motorik beats and Post-Punk deconstructions and honing them into a hushed percussive incantation, The Soft Moon's self-titled debut album took shape. The album was released in late 2010 by Captured Tracks and was praised by critics and emulated by contemporaries. In 2012 the apocalyptic conceptual work of Zeros emerged, shortly followed by Vasquez moving to Venice, Italy in 2013, acting as a catalyst for 2014’s release, Deeper.

So the fourth album Criminal turned out, mostly, evil, nervous and distorted, and at the moment it’s the hardest record of The Soft Moon. I’m sure that many people will consider Criminal as the strongest album of Vasquez. We phoned Luis, who was in Berlin at that moment, and talked to him about the new album, further plans and emotions. Rockcult: Let’s talk about your new album Criminal, which will be released very soon. Are you satisfied with the response to your new singles Burn and It Kills? Vasquez: Yeah.

Keven Tecon joined the band as a drummer in early 2012. The Soft Moon has taken cues from early synthpunk/post-punk bands such as Chrome, Suicide, Danse Society and The Units. The Soft Moon was founded by Luis Vasquez as a solo project in 2009.
